In January 2026, PROMEDIATION and the European Union launched a programme aimed at contributing to the mitigation of tensions by supporting local dialogue processes in Darfur and East Sudan involving armed and civilian actors, providing an informal dialogue framework for the main political forces, and strengthening the participation of women leaders in peace and coexistence initiatives both at national and local level.

This new programme aims to deepen and strengthen the work already done through previous FPI-funded actions. In Darfur, as well as in East Sudan, Promediation will support local actors in forming dialogue platforms and forums to defuse local tensions and work together on key issues such as relations between armed groups and civilians.

Furthermore, as the political track remains the dialogue arena where proposals and ideas for an end of the war can be put on the table and discussed amongst Sudanese, Promediation will support the facilitation of informal dialogue processes between the main political forces at national level, strengthening the official initiatives.

Finally, aiming to address a gap in the existing peace initiatives, Promediation will work on strengthening the participation of women in dialogue processes through capacity-building to key political and civil society women leaders.
